BUCHANAN, Tenn. – “They must be giving away iPhones over there,” said a local man pumping gas at Dodd’s Country Store and gas station on Highway 79 near Paris Landing State park on Wednesday afternoon.

“Either that or Miranda Lambert concert tickets,” he added with a chuckle.

Finally curiosity got the best of the jolly man pumping gas.

“What in the heck are they standing in line for over there anyway?” he asked openly.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is asking fishermen to be on the lookout for nonnative giant tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) after a recent sighting in East Bay near Panama City. The Sept. 19 catch marks the first time a giant tiger prawn was reported to the FWC in Florida's northern Gulf of Mexico waters. Reports have been common in Atlantic coastal waters, and three were reported off the coast of St. Augustine this summer. Biologists are also working to confirm reports of another sighting in Pensacola Bay.

Named for the black stripes on its shell, giant tiger prawn also are known as black tiger shrimp and Asian tigers.

Impacts, both negative and positive, are unclear at this time, but they could include competition for resources.

Native to Southeast Asia and Australia, the large (8 to 12 inches long) shrimp was first introduced into U.S. waters in 1988 after an accidental release of about 2,000 shrimp from an aquaculture facility in Bluffton, S.C. About 10 percent of those that were released were later recaptured, some as far south as Cape Canaveral.

Maryville, TN. -- The third annual Berkley B1 Bass Open took place on Lake St-Francis in southwestern Quebec with a complete field of 150 teams. The team of Jason Gramada and Nicolas Gendron won the event with 48.02 pounds of smallmouth bass. Anchoring the winning teams winning weight was a 6.53-pounder, which also claimed the Lunker award.

"The B1 experience is the ultimate platform where all anglers, young and old, experienced or newcomer can truly come together to celebrate this great sport." said Gendron. "We are humbled by the grandeur, respect and support from all our peers."

To win the tournament, the duo targeted less obvious sand flats. These sand flats held big smallmouth, and became a key rotation in areas fished by the winners. The primary bait used was a wacky-rigged Berkley HeavyWeight Sinkworm.
