_PENDER COUNTY, NC (
WECT) – Four separate commercial fishing boats were robbed of their GPS units on Lewis Road in Hampstead Friday night. The equipment is worth around $30,000, but the victims believe the thieves were looking for more.
Tony Morris has spent 25 years of his life navigating the waters for the best catch, but in a matter of hours it was all gone. Whoever took the GPS equipment left behind thousands of dollars worth of fishing gear.
Morris believes the thieves had a mission bigger than a good pawn. He says they knew what to look for and may have been after the coordinates programmed in the GPS devices. He calls it a move out of nasty competition.
"There are some copies of numbers themselves that cost $3,000-5,000," explained Morris. "You know anyone that's been in this business as long as we have knows how important these coordinates are."

Ray Murski
_
The fishing industry lost a legend and great friend Monday when Ray Murski died after sustaining injuries in a two-car crash on a Texas highway.
Murski, 72, of Meridian, Texas, died at an Austin-area hospital after being transported following the crash. Eyewitnesses said his SUV crossed over the center line in the two-lane highway and collided head-on with another vehicle.
Murski was owner of the Bliss-Murski rep group of Dallas, which handles numerous accounts in the fishing and hunting industry. He was among the first competitors on the Bassmaster Tournament Trail after it was founded in the late 1960s and also owned Strike King Lure Company for a period until selling in 1995.
