SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - It will be bass fishing talent galore at the 2013 Bassmaster Classic Expo in Tulsa, Okla., and what makes the gathering even better is knowing that the long list of top professional anglers who will be in attendance for the three day show, Feb. 22-24, are highly approachable and quick to sign autographs and pose for photos. More good news comes from the fact that entry into the expo is free.

"While 53 fishermen are battling it out on Grand Lake for the championship title, dozens of other top names in fishing will be in the comfortable environment of the Tulsa Convention Center," said Mike Eutsler, Lew's field promotions manager. "Sure, they'd all rather be fishing this week, but who among us wouldn't, so the next best thing is to talk about it."

JL Marine would like to invite you to stop by Booth# 410 during the BassMaster Classic Outdoor Expo being held at the Tulsa Convention Center February 22nd- 24th. We'd love to see you.

Here are some Classic thoughts, wishes and trends we hope you enjoy:

A Classic Trend - Since the first Power-Pole shallow water anchor appeared in Classic competition in 2008, a distinct trend has developed. From 24% of the anglers back in '08, to an impressive 98% of this year's competitors! Power-Pole has become the overwhelming choice.

TULSA, Okla. - The guard at Tulsa's BOK Center shook her head.

"We haven't seen snow in downtown Tulsa all winter. The Bassmaster Classic comes to town, and we get snow," she said.

And cold, ice, sleet, rain - even thunder and lightning - all in the days leading up to the Friday through Sunday world championship of bass fishing on Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. Fifty-three anglers will compete for $500,000 and the most prestigious title in the sport.

While weekend anglers might shy away from fishing in inclement weather, competitors in the 2013 Bassmaster Classic presented by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa No.1 don't have a choice; and No. 2 are ready to deal with it. They practiced last weekend in cold and snow. Most braved the snowstorm of Wednesday for the final practice session on Grand Lake.

Emcee Bobby Lane interviews anglers
from the Bartow High School
Yellow Jackets Fishing Club at inaugural
event in 2011.
Kids in Florida will get to meet one of their hometown heroes and compete for a Bassmaster Classic-sized trophy when the Bobby Lane Cup takes place on December 15, 2012 at Camp Mack River Resort in Lake Wales, Florida.

Bartow High School(in Bartow, FL) is hosting the event. The kids at Bartow High chose to name the event for pro angler Bobby Lane of Lakeland, Florida, a 5-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier, FLW Forrest Wood Cup qualifier and 3-time Toyota Texas Bass Classic qualifier.
"I feel honored to have the tournament named after me," said Lane who will emcee the weigh-in.

This high school fishing tournament is in its second year and growing. Last year, 30-35 anglers participated. This year, 50-60 anglers between the ages of 9 to 16 have already signed up. The kids will be coming from several high school fishing teams and fishing clubs throughout the surrounding area.

For the seventh consecutive year, veteran bass pro Chad Morgenthaler will host a benefit tournament at the popular and productive Rend Lake fishery near his Illinois home. This year's event, to be held on October 6th, promises to be even bigger and better than the previous successes.

"It has grown to proportions where it's the largest event in southern Illinois," Morgenthaler said. "We had a hundred teams last year and we've moved the date back a little bit so it doesn't conflict with other schedules, so we expect even more participation this year."

The previous six tournaments have benefitted the Special Olympics Illinois, but a change in management at that organization necessitated a change. Rather than cancel the event altogether, Morgenthaler and his title sponsor, Jasper Engines, looked for ways to spread the wealth. They identified worthy benefactors in the Illinois Conservation Foundation, which supports youth hunting and fishing, as well as Five Star Industries, which provides a variety of services to help those with developmental disabilities improve their quality of life.
